Practo Online Healthcare Platform Enters the Brazilian Market

Healthcare platform Practo Thursday announced the launch of its healthcare services in Brazil, where the company will start operating two of its products - Practo Search and Practo Ray, with Portuguese language support.
Launching first in Sao Paulo, Practo said it will list over 5,500 verified doctors, covering nearly 50 percent of all clinics in the city through its Practo's app and website.
To make sure the data is reliable, Practo said it had combed through every street in the city to collect and verify information of healthcare professionals, adding that the listing of verified doctors was at no expense to the healthcare clinics. The company also launched Practo Ray, its cloud based hospital management solution, which will be made available in Brazil at a subscription of BRL 750 (roughly Rs. 13,600) per month.
In the second half of 2016, Practo plans to expand to Rio de Janeiro and eventually to all large cities in Brazil. Additionally, it will also expand its consumer offering to other healthcare segments like wellness, fitness, preventive, and curative segments, the company said.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve millions of consumers in Brazil and simplify healthcare experience for doctors and consumers simultaneously," said Shashank ND, Founder and CEO, Practo in an emailed statement.

India Leads Facebook's Bug Bounty Program on Payouts and Participation

India is the top ranking country on Facebook's bug bounty program, with the highest number of participating security researchers and in terms of paid bounties, which stands at Rs. 4.8 crores since the program was created, Facebook said.
"India has long topped the list of 127 countries whose researchers contribute to our bug bounty program. It also holds the top position for the country receiving the most bounties paid," Adam Ruddermann, Technical Program Manager, on the Facebook Bug Bounty team writes on the Facebook blog.
"The Facebook bug bounty program pays out based on a bug's risk, rather than its complexity or cleverness. This means you can maximise the value of your report by focusing on high-impact areas and submitting good quality reports," said Ruddermann.
Earlier this month, Facebook had awarded $15,000 (roughly Rs. 10 lakhs) to 22-year old Anand Prakash, a security researcher who works at Flipkart.
Launched in 2011, Facebook's bug bounty program lets white hat hackers report vulnerabilities in Facebook and its acquired companies and products, such as Instagram, Free Basics, Oculus, and Onavo.
The bug bounty program has received over 2,400 valid submissions, and awarded more than $4.3 million (roughly Rs. 28.6 crores) to over 800 researchers around the world, since its inception. In 2015, Facebook received a total of 13,233 submissions from 5,543 researchers in 127 countries, and paid out $936,000 (roughly Rs. 6.2 crores) to 210 researchers, who submitted a total of 526 valid reports. India, Egypt, and Trinidad and Tobago received the highest number of payouts, and average payout was $1,780 (roughly Rs. 1.18 lakhs), according to a recent post by the bug bounty team.

MobiKwik Enters Hyperlocal Space With 'Explore Nearby' Feature

Mobile payments network MobiKwik on Thursday said it is venturing into the hyperlocal space with the launch of Explore Nearby.
Available on the MobiKwik app, the feature enables discovery of neighbourhood stores, restaurants, and cafes that accept wallet payments.
MobiKwik has partnered more than 10,000 retail stores, which include merchants such as Big Bazaar, Barista, Domino's Pizza, WHSmith India, Archies and Sagar Ratna, among others.
"With the Explore Nearby feature we are connecting offline retail stores with over 30 million users on our platform. Offline stores can now attract MobiKwik users depending on their location and preferences that could result in higher sales," Bipin Preet Singh, Founder-CEO of MobiKwik said.
Users of MobiKwik can also use Explore Nearby to locate the nearest cash-loading point for topping up their wallet balance.
Many of MobiKwik's offline retail partners, such WHSmith India and ICICI Bank, also assist the users to top up their wallet using hard cash.
The feature, live on MobiKwik Android app, is expected to be rolled out to the iOS and Windowsversions as well.
"Offline is one of the four main focus areas for us. For offline payments, MobiKwik offers two payment options, one follows the normal OTP flow, and the second that we're pushing in restraurants and other offline retail establishments is 'Bill Push', where you just share your phone number, and you get a bill that is pushed to your app," said Jasjit Singh,Director, Product Management at MobiKwik in a phone conversation with Gadgets 360. He added that Mobikwik has over 10,000 offline merchants at present. "The basic problem that this feature is solving is discovery. Things are very pervasive, everywhere you go, there are places where you could use MobiKwik to pay," he added.
MobiKwik connects its 30 million users with 50,000 retailers and aspires to be the largest source of digital transactions in India. The company's goal is to empower 150 million Indians to pay $5 billion (roughly Rs. 33,322 crores) digitally to 500,000 retailers, it had said earlier

Domino's to Trial Robots for Pizza Delivery

Fast food giant Domino's is to trial pizza delivery robots in New Zealand, it said Friday, describing the hi-tech, driverless units as a world first.
In a move enthusiastically backed by the New Zealand government, Domino's said it was working with authorities on plans to roll out its DRU (Domino's Robotic Unit).
The four-wheeler, developed in Australia, is just under a metre (three foot) high and contains a heated compartment that can hold up to 10 pizzas.
It is battery powered and uses on-board sensors to avoid obstacles, with Domino's saying it can deliver pizzas within a 20 kilometre (12.5 mile) radius of a store before returning to recharge.
Customers are given a code when they order, which they enter onto a keypad to unlock the compartment containing their pizza.
"DRU is cheeky and endearing and we are confident that one day he will become an integral part of the Domino's family," the chain's New Zealand general manager Scott Bush said.
"He's a road to the future and one that we are very excited about exploring further."
While a date for the trial is yet to be finalised, Transport Minister Simon Bridges said the government working with Domino's on the project and was keen for it to proceed.
"This is an exciting opportunity for New Zealand... over the last 12 months I've been actively and aggressively promoting New Zealand as a test bed for new transport technology trials," he said.
New Zealand is still working on regulations relating to driverless vehicles such as the DRU, which is designed to operate on both roads and footpaths.

YouTube Now on T-Mobile's 'Binge On' After Earlier Spat

T-Mobile and YouTube have come to terms after a public spat over the phone company's "Binge On" video streaming service.
As a result, most T-Mobile customers can, starting Thursday, watch YouTube videos without using up their cellphone data.
T-Mobile in November had started letting customers stream video from a couple dozen providers, including NetflixHulu and HBO, without using up their phone data.
YouTube, which is owned by Alphabet, didn't like that T-Mobile then delivered all video in DVD-level quality, which is worse than HD - even video from companies that hadn't joined Binge On.
YouTube, as well as others including digital-rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation, criticized this as throttling, which the government's net neutrality rules don't permit. T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a video posted online that that charge was "a game of semantics" because customers could opt out and stream higher quality video if they wanted. Customers would use up more data if they did that.
Proponents of net neutrality, the concept that Internet service providers should treat all traffic equally, are concerned about efforts by T-Mobile and other ISPs, including VerizonAT&T and Comcast, to exempt some video or other online activities from data caps. They worry that could lead to some Internet companies paying cable and phone businesses for better access to consumers, hurting other Internet companies that can't afford to pay. (T-Mobile doesn't charge video companies to participate in Binge On, however.)
T-Mobile has changed its service to appease YouTube. Now T-Mobile allows video providers to manage video streams themselves, which YouTube is doing. That helps YouTube make sure that video doesn't take a long time to load for viewers.
Video providers can also choose whether they want to be able to stream their video at a higher quality. If they do that, T-Mobile customers will have to use more data to watch it.
YouTube also said in a blog post that T-Mobile has made it easier for customers to turn off Binge On so that they can watch HD video.
T-Mobile said on Thursday that it has added some other, smaller video providers to Binge On as well. The program now has several dozen in all, but does not include Facebook or Snapchat, a photo and video app that's become popular with teens and young adults in the last few years.

Bangladesh Police Launch Bank Heist Probe

Bangladesh police launched a criminal investigation on Thursday into the cyber theft of $81 million (roughly Rs. 540 crores) from the central bank's US account but said it was too early to pinpoint any suspects.
The money was transferred to accounts in the Philippines, and a Senate hearing there was told that nearly half a million dollars was skimmed off and packed into a bank branch manager's car. The bulk went to two casinos and an individual who is believed to be a junket operator.
The heist took place between February 4 and February 5, when unknown hackers breached the computer systems of Bangladesh Bank and attempted to steal $951 million (roughly Rs. 6,332 crores) from its account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which it uses for international settlements.
The other transfers were blocked, but $81 million went to accounts in a Manila branch of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp (RCBC), and was quickly further transferred.
Romualdo S. Agarrado, a reserve officer of RCBC who was at the branch at the time, told the hearing that a withdrawal slip for PHP 20 million ($432,000 or roughly Rs. 2.9 crores) from one of the accounts was made out by the manager Maia Santos Deguito herself and cashed.
Agarrado cited her as saying at the time: "I would rather do this than me being killed or my family."
In Dhaka, a central bank spokesman said a police team visited the bank on Thursday to understand the workings of the accounts and budget department and the computer system as they launched their probe.
"We have just started our investigation. It is a bit early to name suspects," a police official said.
The cyber thieves hid their tracks by installing malware that manipulated a central bank printer to hide evidence of the heist, according to a person familiar with an investigation by cyber security experts.
However, the investigators have so far found no evidence of inside involvement in the hacking of the bank's computers, the source said.
Earlier, central bank officials filed a police report that said that a computer and printer the bank used to order SWIFT wire transfers were manipulated so that authorities could not see records of outgoing wire transfer requests or receipts confirming that they had been received.
Details about the issues with the computer and printer were among the first clues to surface as to how the attack was carried out.
A representative from Brussels-based SWIFT, a bank-owned cooperative that runs a secure private messaging system widely used for requesting money transfers, declined comment on Wednesday.
Manager says made scapegoat
In the Philippines, officials have told the Senate committee that the $81 million was wired to four fictitious accounts at RCBC, most of it was subsequently consolidated into one account and was then sent on to a foreign exchange broker called Philrem Service Corp.
From Philrem, more than $30 million (roughly Rs. 200 crores) was delivered in cash to an ethnic Chinese man who some witnesses said they believed is a casino junket operator in Manila, although regulatory officials told Reuters they had not previously heard of him.
A further $50 million (roughly Rs. 333 crores) was split between a casino resort and a gaming firm in the Philippines, officials said.
Thursday's hearing focused on the branch manager, who for the most part declined to answer questions from the senators except in camera.
"The 20 million pesos was placed in the car of Ms. Deguito and she drove off with it," RCBC attorney Maria Celia Fernandez-Estavillo told the hearing, referring to details of an affidavit from Agarrado, the reserve officer.
In an interview with a local TV channel before the hearing, Deguito denied any wrongdoing and said she was being used as a scapegoat.
The Anti-Money Laundering Council of the Philippines said complaints have been made against the manager of the RCBC branch and the holders of fictitious accounts into which the money was originally deposited at the branch.

TeslaCrypt Ransomware Flaws Patched, Making It Impossible to Crack: Researchers

Fraudsters behind ransomware TeslaCrypt have patched the flaws that allowed victims to recover their files without paying them first. In fact, according to researchers, TeslaCrypt 3.0.1, the new version, doesn't have any known flaws at all, making it "impossible" for anyone to crack it.
Security researchers at Cisco Talos report that TeslaCrypt 3.0.1 comes with a very sophisticated cryptographic algorithm. "We can not say it loud and often enough, ransomware has become the black plague of the Internet," researchers wrote in a blog post. "The adversaries are modifying and improving it in every version."
Earlier researchers found vulnerabilities in several older versions of TeslaCrypt, and made tools such as TeslaCrack, TeslaDecrypt, and TeslaDecoder that allowed victims of the TeslaCrypt ransomware to unlock their files without paying the criminals. The feat was considered as a victory of sorts. "Unfortunately, so far we are not aware of any tool which can do the same for this variant of TeslaCrypt," researchers added.
The previous versions of TeslaCrypt stored the private key needed to unlock the device on a user's machine. In the new version, fraudsters generate the key in the victim's computer but then move it to their server.
Ransomware has quickly become one of the biggest security threats. Downloading a ransomware affected app installs a tool on the victim's machine, locking down all of the files, and giving a time frame in which victims must pay, should they want their files back. Over the past two years, this stain of malware has grown sophisticated, now coming stuffed with several popular apps. A BitTorrent client forOS X was recently found compromised with a ransomware.

FTC Brings Machinima to Justice for Its Part in Paying YouTubers to Promote Xbox One

in January 2014, there were reports that Microsoft was paying YouTube video creators via Machinima - one of the site's biggest channels - to promote its current-gen console, the Xbox One. And on Thursday, the US Federal Trade Commission issued an order that forces Machinima, Inc. to "disclose when it has compensated 'influencers' to post YouTube videos or other online product endorsements as part of 'influencer campaigns'".
According to FTC regulations, disobeying a final consent order carries a penalty of up to $16,000 (roughly Rs. 10.6 lakhs) per violation. The Commission's investigation into the unfair practice was announced back in September 2015, but the failure to properly connect the dots between video creators and Machinima led to a settlement. It discovered that Machinima had offered a group of "influencers" access to pre-release versions of Xbox One console and games, and asked them to give a glowing review without disclosing they were being compensated for the same. In return, they were paid $1 (Rs. 67) for every 1,000 views on their videos, up to a maximum of $25,000 (roughly Rs. 16.6 lakhs).
"When people see a product touted online, they have a right to know whether they're looking at an authentic opinion or a paid marketing pitch," Jessica Rich, director of the US Bureau of Consumer Protection said in a statement in September. "That's true whether the endorsement appears in a video or any other media."
Although the FTC did send a letter to Microsoft for its part in the debacle, they didn't pursue the software giant further because the matter was being handled by Microsoft's advertising agency, Starcom MediaVest Group. Also, the Commission found out that both Microsoft and Starcom had told Machinima to ask "influencers" to provide the necessary disclosures after they realised the problem, but the gaming channel had failed to do so.
The job of the FTC is to ensure that endorsements are honest and not misleading, and hence it works to regulate any endorser that is being compensated for their "opinions" but isn't being open to its audience. In our Internet age wherein the line gets repeatedly blurred, be it Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat where such schemes widely operate, the FTC has had to issue newer guidelines to keep up with the various methods.
In India, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) is in-charge of handling all such matters. The last amendment to its guidelines was done back in 2009, a time when most Internet services were on the verge of infancy. Another amendment bill was brought to the floor back in 2012, but it lapsed after the 2014 general election.

Mobile Internet Services Suspended in Parts of Haryana

Prohibitory orders were clamped and mobile Internet services suspended at many places in Haryana Friday as the state braced for possible renewal of the Jat quota agitation that had led to widespread violence claiming the lives of 30 people last month.
Mobile Internet services for 2G, 3G and 4G have been suspended for the time being in many sensitive districts, including Rohtak and Jhajjar, which were the epicentre of the recent Jat stir, officials said.
Prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more persons have also been issued by some district authorities, including Sonipat, as a precautionary measure to maintain peace.
"There were some messages which were being circulated on WhatsApp about fake untoward incidents. Some messages were also forwarded on the mobile number of Rohtak's Superintendent of Police yesterday. We also rounded up few persons in this regard," Rohtak's Deputy Commissioner, Atul Kumar told PTI over phone.
Asked how long the Internet services will remain suspended, he said, "We will not prolong it. These are just precautionary measures."
Jhajjar's SP Jashan Deep Singh also said they had taken a similar step as such messages were being circulated.
"In order to prevent any wider circulation, we have taken the step to suspend the services for the time being," he said.
Meanwhile, Haryana government was holding talks with Jat leaders here this afternoon on their quota demand.
All India Jat Aarakshan Sanghursh Samiti President Yashpal Malik said in view of their meeting with Haryana Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) the agitation will not be resumed.
"After meeting the top officials next course of action will be taken," he said.
Various Jat organisations had given a deadline of 72 hours on Monday threatening to resume their quota agitation if their demands were not met by the Manohar Lal Khattar government. The deadline ended Thursday following which the state government invited Jat leaders for talks.
Jats are demanding 10 percent quota in jobs and educational institutions, besides withdrawal of FIRs registered against the protesters, compensation to those killed during the stir and action against BJP MP from Kurukshetra Raj Kumar Saini for his "anti-Jat" reservation stand.

Flipkart Says CEO's Email Account Not Hacked but Spoofed

Refuting media reports that Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal's email account has been hacked, the etailer on Friday said it was spoofed but not hacked.
"We would like to clarify it is not a case of hacking. Flipkart's corporate email system leverages the highest standards of security including but not limited to two factor authentication," it said in a statement.
A spoofed email does not originate from the real source but from a different source falsifying the name and address with an ulterior motive.
A leading newspaper on Friday reported that Bansal's email account was hacked and two emails were sent in his name to Flipkart's CFO Sanjay Baweja on March 1 at 11.33 a.m., directing him to transfer $80,000 (roughly Rs. 52 lakhs).
The company said it filed a police report complaining on email spoofing its CEO suffered.
"We have filed a case of email spoofing which involves use of a forged email header to make it look like a legitimate email. This case of email spoofing was immediately detected and a report was filed with police," the statement added.

China's Alibaba Planning to Enter Indian E-Commerce Market This Year

Chinese e-commerce major Alibaba Group is planning to enter India this year and is looking at opportunities to build the business organically or through other means.
"We are planning to enter the e-commerce business in India in 2016. We have been exploring very carefully the e-commerce opportunity in this country, which we think is very exciting on the backdrop of Digital India," Alibaba Group President J Michael Evans said in New Delhi.
The company said it is evaluating all opportunities to build the business organically or look at any other thing that might come along.
Evans, who along with Alibaba Group's Global Managing Director K Guru Gowrappan met Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday, said the company plans to come in India and work to serve both customers, consumers and small businesses because that is the history and the DNA of Alibaba.
"We have investments in both payments and e-commerce already and we will over the course of next year will figure about exactly what our strategy is," Evans said.
Alibaba has made investments in Paytm and Snapdeal. Speaking about the meeting, Prasad said: "We hope Alibaba will come and have a good footprint in India, including the expanding business of ecommerce (for which) they are exploring the possibility. I have said very clearly that Alibaba is quite free to come and expand its footprint in India."
Sources who were privy to the meeting said Alibaba is very keen to come to India in a very big way, particularly in the e-commerce segment.
The company is exploring the potential whether to go on their own or set up shop with someone else.
"I explained to them that e-commerce is a rising phenomenon in India with a growth rate of over 60 percent," Prasad said.
In November 2014, Alibaba founder Jack Ma, who was on his first visit to India, said he would "invest more in India, work with Indian entrepreneurs and Indian technologists to improve the relationship between the two nations".
Ma, one of the richest persons in China with a fortune of about $24 billion (roughly Rs. 1,59,320 crores), founded Alibaba in 1999 in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang province.
Meanwhile, Prasad also met Asia-Pacific head of Amazon Web Services (Public sector) Peter Moore, who discussed the company's plans to launch a dedicated cloud region in India later this year.

Yahoo Turns to Facebook for Tumblr Ad-Sale Deal: Report

Yahoo is reportedly in talks with Facebook about an advertising partnership that would allow the social networking site to sell ads on Tumblr.
According to a report in The Information website, Yahoo is considering a deal with Facebook that would allow the social network giant to sell ads inside Tumblr's mobile app.
Facebook deal would involve sales through Facebook Audience Network, a relatively new offering that allows advertisers who already work with the company to sell ads that also run outside the network on other sites, the report added.
Yahoo already has a number of ad-sales deals with outside parties, including a three-year, search-related ad deal that it signed with Google in October last year. It also has a deal with Microsoft that allows Yahoo to share in the revenue for ads that run on Microsoft properties, Fortune.com reported on Friday.
Yahoo acquired microblogging website Tumblr in 2013 for $1.1 billion.
However in a recent securities filing, Yahoo said it has written down the value of Tumblr by 20 percent, and may have to do so again as it appears the company could not generate much revenue from the microblogging network founded by David Karp.
In a tacit admission that its advertising strategy failed somewhere along the line, Yahoo recently confirmed that it is unwinding the integration of the site into Yahoo's existing sales operation, and that Tumblr will have a dedicated sales team of its own again.

Online Shopping to Grow by 78 Percent in 2016: Report

Average online purchases in India are expected to increase by 78 percent this year on the back of attractive deals and aggressive marketing of merchandise, industry chamber Assocham said on Sunday.
"Unfazed by slowdown, average online purchases are expected to increase by 78 percent in 2016 from 66 percent in 2015, due to attractive deals and aggressive marketing of ever-expanding range of merchandise from clothes to jewellery, from electronics to books," said a study by Assocham and international accounting firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC).
Around 55 million consumers shopped online in 2015 and the number is expected to grow to 80 million this year with better logistics, broadband and Internet-ready devices, it said.
The report said the growth of e-commerce has been driven by aggressive merchandising and discounting from flash sales and daily deals, more online loyalty programmes and increasing popularity of smartphones and tablets among consumers.
"The smartphone and tablet shoppers will be strong growth drivers. Mobile phones already account for 11 percent of e-commerce sales, and their share will jump to 25 percent by 2017," it said.
Overall the e-commerce industry, worth $25 billion (roughly Rs. 1,66,296 crores), has been growing at a compound annual growth rate of about 35-40 percent a year, and is expected to cross the $100 billion (roughly Rs.) mark in five years, it added.
"E-commerce is big business and getting bigger every day. Online shopping has been embraced by Indians with close to 8-10 million adults making a purchase via the Internet in the last year," said Assocham secretary general DS Rawat.
The report also said computer and consumer electronics, along with apparel and accessories, will contribute 40 percent of the total retail e-commerce sales in 2016, from the current level of 35 percent.
